What is JOINTStart PREMIUM?
Like regular JOINTStart, the PREMIUM formula also works to rebuild cartilage and connective tissue, addressing the damage causing the pain. However, PREMIUM is a more powerful, faster working pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. In order to accomplish this, some of the re-building agents have been traded-off for more anti-inflammatory substances. JOINTSTART PREMIUM INGREDIENTS:
MSM supplies the body with organic sulfur that directly contributes to the maintenance of the integrity of the cartilage within the joints. MSM will block pain impulses within nerves, and reduce inflammation (which places pressure on nerves and other tissues, causing intensified pain). MSM also promotes blood flow, which enhances the healing processes, and can reduce muscle spasms. Glucosamine is available in two forms, the most commonly used being Glucosamine Sulfate, which also has the most research behind it. Both JOINTStart formulas also use the Hydrochloride form of Glucosamine, which contains 20% more active glucosamine than the sulfate form. The sulfate form, unlike the hydrochloride form, is also usually stabilized with sodium (up to 30%). Glucosamine is involved in the formation of tendons, ligaments, cartilage and synovial fluids.
SERRAZIMES-1 is a protease enzyme measured at 600,000 units per gram. All protein-digesting enzymes (including bromelain, papain, and pancreatin) have a secondary function of reducing inflammation, when taken away from protein in the diet. Thus this product should be taken on an empty stomach, or with fruit or carbohydrates. A daily dose of JointSTART PREMIUM contains 60mg of Serrazimes-1, equal to 36,000 units of protease activity. Our enzymes came from fungal strains (aspergillus – the variety used to produce most digestive enzymes sold in supplemental form) with a long history of safe use. These strains are very well established, known to be non-pathogenic and do not produce micotoxins.
CURCUMIN C3 Complex is derived from the spice Turmeric. Turmeric and isolated curcumin, from Turmeric, are well proven to be powerful antioxidants, to reduce inflammation, prevent cancer, and to protect and detoxify the liver. Because Turmeric requires large amounts to be effective (a few teaspoons per day), most products use the 95% standardized Curcumin extract. By isolating one compound from a complex we have a substance that is closer to a drug than a food, and thus has more potential for side effects. It has been found that isolated curcumin can actually increase free radical production when it is not balanced by the other components found in the whole plant. PREMIUM uses Sabinsa’s "Curcumin C3 Complex" which contains concentrated aspects of the whole Turmeric plant. This gives us the full range of benefits with no potential for side effects.
BOSWELLIA EXTRACT (65% Boswellic Acids) has been proven to be clinically effective in treating both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Boswellic acids shrink inflamed tissue, stimulate the growth of cartilage, increase blood supply to inflamed joints and repair blood vessels damaged by inflammation.
DEVIL’S CLAW EXTRACT is most commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, but it has very broad anti-inflammatory properties, and is also used to reduce pain levels. Studies indicate it can be effectively used to treat arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gout and tendonitis.
BROMELAIN is a proteolytic enzyme (protein-digesting), which means it also has anti-inflammatory properties. However, it is included in this formula because of its’ synergistic effect when combined with Turmeric extract. Although Curcumin (the extract from Turmeric) is somewhat poorly absorbed by the body, it has been shown that Bromelain dramatically enhances its’ absorption.
ALFALFA JUICE EXTRACT both detoxifies and alkalizes the body. It is used in folk medicine to treat arthritic and rheumatoid conditions, including lower back pain and sciatica. In Chinese medicine Alfalfa is a "cooling" tonic useful for treating acute and chronic inflammatory symptoms associated with degeneration and aging.
